Easy Steps to Make Autumn Fruit Compote with Eggy Bread

Waking early, low light in the kitchen revealed a painterly metal bowl with organic swirls, set against a low wooden table. Within sat a pear, two plums, an apple and a pomegranate. The autumnal shades shared a harmony. Poetry in the prosaic.

Here’s a recipe for an autumnal fruit compote, filled with health giving fruit.

Recipe and method for Autumn fruit compote

  • I roughly chopped plums, pear, and apple into equal sized pieces in a pan, adding a little butter. Use olive oil if you prefer.
  • Then, set a medium heat.
  • As soon as you hear a sizzle of butter, add the fruit.
  • Then, add a couple of tablespoons of water, one of honey, and a light dusting of cinnamon. Stir to make sure the fruit is coated.
  • Finally, add a small handful of raisins to pep things up, cover, and simmer gently for about two minutes, adding another tablespoon of water if needed.

The fruit should have softened nicely in about 3 minutes. The heat will have blended the flavours gently too, while still allowing for distinction.

Separately, I made a plain eggy bread (check the recipe here).

To serve, I topped the eggy bread with the warm compote. A perfect breakfast over which to watch the sun rise.

Plums loaned purple and pink tones to the compote. These gave way to warmer apple and pear when put together with eggy bread. Honey and cinnamon added sweetness, but allowed fruit flavours to dance on the tongue.

There are some benefits to rising early.
